Malaysia’s Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad latest salvo fired against the Crown Prince of Johor took a turn for the worst when the elder statesman called the prince “a little boy” and “stupid”.

What happened

Mahathir was responding to allegations by the prince that Mahathir did not give enough credit to contributions of Johor royal family to their people. Of the Johor Sultan, Mahathir said,

โ€œI donโ€™t want to comment on the Sultan of Johor (Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar). If I say anything, that is not good โ€“ it is not nice because he is the Sultan… But this TMJ (Crown Prince) is a little boy.”

The prince had alleged on Twitter that the Johor royal family were victims of “character assassination” by Mahathir and his government through unfair criticism over the Rapid Transit System (RTS) project.

โ€œWell, he is stupid because he does not know what is happening. So, donโ€™t talk lah. If you donโ€™t know anything, donโ€™t talk.โ€

Previously, the Johor Sultan said he would give up the land required to build the RTS for free, which would otherwise cost the government RM495.3 million (S$164 million) if they were made to buy it from the royal family.

The Crown Prince drew attention to this matter in a series of tweets.

โ€œHow much land has the Sultan of Johor given the people and the government from then until now? Millions were given to the government. His Majesty even managed to settle the governmentโ€™s debt during his second year as Sultan. Millions were given to foundations. News like this has never been publicised.โ€

Other good deeds allegedly unaired:

โ€œLand for mosques and temples, and people going for the Hajj pilgrimage? Thousands were helped by the Sultan, even donations to hospitals. No news.โ€
